The fish hatchery gave us a salmon to eat!

We stopped at the White Sands Fish Hatchery on the Lochsa River near Lowell, Idaho (Lochsa Lodge) to check out the salmon which had arrived, and they gave us a salmon to take home and eat!



Actually, they didn’t.  The fishery guy handed the salmon to my friend and let him slide it down the chute behind him into the holding tank.



The fishery guy gave us a great explanation of the process for inspecting and screening salmon which arrive at the hatchery.



Here he is using a radio device to check the number on the fish’s PIT (passive integrated transducer).  They use a metal detector to check for a wire in the fish's nose, which is another way to identify fish.
