Just a middle aged computer guy looking for ways to undo the physical effects of staring at a computer screen my entire life that somehow ties into my love of fresh seafood.

So here I am :D

Been fly fishing freestones since I was 14, tying flies about as long, built my first spey rod about 4 years ago, and intend to catch my first salmon on the fly in 2016.

Never been in a kayak in my life but I'm reasonably used to getting soaked (intentionally and otherwise), so my apologies in advance for any foolish questions.

Plan on picking up a Hobie Outback and keeping the spey rod handy, but definitely going to pick up a couple of Lamaglas kayak rods; one for salmon, lings, cabezon, and another heavier outfit for halibut eventually.

I expect to be targeting marine areas 8-1, 8-2, and 10 primarily.  Maybe 9 & 11 as well.

Anyway, good to meet you guys, cheers!

Welcome! You do relies that once you catch a salmon on your fly pole the other poles will be forgotten in the corner and be gathering dust.

lol kinda like how all my fancy pants trout gear went into hybernation the second i got a steelhead on the swing.

i've seriously been day dreaming about how an anchor-based cast would work while sitting in a kayak but by god im going to make it happen.

Welcome to the group.  I live in Edmonds and fish in areas 8.2 and 9 most of the times because of easy launch areas. See you out in the Sound.  I am the guy in the yellow PA or TI.

Welcome

I just started the whole Kayak fishing in the last couple months.  Before the kayak I was primarily a flyfisher...I've been out for pinks twice and almost had my fist salmon out of the kayak.  I still image catching salmon on my fly rods but right now trying trolling in the sound.  I plan on hitting the Snohomish soon to see how that works.

I am in Lake Forest Park and looking at areas from North of Mount Vernon down to Seattle to try with the kayak.  So far only tried Meadowdale.

Hope to see you on the water.

Good safe area to get aquanted with the kayak every season is Lk. Ballinger.  Practice self rescue and fly fish for the planted trout.  I believe it is open year round.  Good place to practice standing and casting since power boat are not allowed.

Fantastic, easy launch areas sound like something I will be focusing on.  I wont be on the water for a month or two but pretty sure if you see a big guy in a yellow Outback, possibly flailing around with a spey rod, that'd be me :)

I definitely plan on branching out from flies into jigging and trolling but I feel like I cant really say I've arrived until I bring a fish to hand on the fly.  Tight lines!

Fantastic, although honestly I dont plan on standing up much, if ever, in the kayak.  I'm pretty risk averse.  That said, I think your suggestion about getting comfortable with kayak dynamics in Lake Ballinger is downright essential.  Thank you.
