I have fished off Sunset Bay many times and never seem to have a lot of luck.  I'm not sure if it's the tides, gear, or what.  Still, it's a great place to tool around regardless of if the fish are biting, but i was hoping for some hints or suggestions.  I don't have a fish finder, but other than that am pretty well geared up.  Thanks.

Hey GS, Welcome to NWKA. You live in the Coos Bay area? Occasionally i have not had too good of luck at Sunset but i usually limit out, or could limit out if i wanted to keep that many.  The closer you get to the rocks and kelp is better, Rootbeer, white and black scampi's are the best IMHO, but bait(herring, squid) works pretty good too. I like to fish on the outside of the rocks to the south but have caught a keeper Ling cod in 10 feet of water just on the outside of the calm water of the bay. Next time you go out give me a holler and i'll go out with ya and show you some of my favorite spots.
See ya on the water..
Roy

Thanks for the info.  I live in the Medford area, so I don't get up to Sunset Bay as much as I'd like to.  I would be interested in heading out there with you to see where the fishing is good or at the very least connect with some other kayakers.
