It doesn't look like there is much going on lately on this post, but I will put my name into the pool.  Just picked up my OK Prowler 13 Angler Edition last Saturday and spent a couple of days on some interior lakes. (Little Blue and Glimpse out of Merrit)  New to kayaking, and so far I am pretty excited about the whole thing.  My fishing experience is almost entirely fly fishing (mostly dry) in interior lakes.  I grew up in Kelowna (Okanagan) and fished from a float tube.  I moved to Chilliwack last August (home of the famous Vedder/Chilliwack River) and am ashamed to say that I have yet to do any local fishing.  I am determined to get back into it and I will admit that I have a little OCD going on.  My fiance is already rolling her eyes at me and my latest obsession.

Anyway, I digress.  I have family in the Okanagan and on Van Island in Parksville area so I am hoping to get a lot of experience under my belt.  Looking for a seasoned yak angler to take me under their wing and teach me what I need to know.  Excited about what I am reading about on the few forums I have visited and looking forward to making some contacts.

Cheers!

Hey dranel, welcome to the cure! Looks like a nice set of yaks and plenty of fishing to be done in your neck of the woods. We love pics and reports so when you go out don't forget the cam.

Hi,

I am a new member here, I have been viewing the site for some time now as I am researching to make an informed decision on the purchase of a boat...Right now my extreme angling is done from a small 10' boat called a Zego it has a 30HP motor on the back. It is totally rigged out for fishing, it is fun and totally wet...however I want to move into a new category in angling and develop the ultimate personal challenge and start kayak fishing.

When I was a kid growing up in Port Alberni, BC - we used to paddle a canoe trolling Tomic plugs for chinook salmon this time of year...it was awesome and a great way to fish. I am looking forward to the many challenges and creative innovations of rigging and fishing from a kayak.

I am based out of Nanaimo, BC and run a site called killfish.com - I am a diehard angler, you might call me a finaddict! LOL

...ps, I noticed that most fishing kayaks are roto molded plastic, are there any glas boats out there??

Cheers,
RVP. :)

There are a few fiberglass sit on top kayaks out there.

Current designs makes one called the Kestrel and "BrianG" an NCKA member has one. I'll try and hunt it down one his posts about his kayak.

Here's the Current Designs product page.

There are a few fiberglass surfski's that get used as fishing kayaks in places like South Africa and Australia.  A few have made it to the US, but they haven't caught on.

Hey RVP, welcome to the cure. Another one dropping the stink tank for a yak. Good man! ;) Although I do like your choice of stink tank.. very interesting. What Bsteves said about glass yaks. I think the reason glass/ composite yaks haven't caught on is because we take them in such rough places and have so much crap to put in them. I have a feeling most glass/composite yaks would be seriously damaged too soon to justify the price for one. Plastic is just too utilitarian for the time being. Again, welcome and feel free to ask more about yaks in the future.
