I have a couple new additions to the "Cascadia Kayak Angler" YouTube series I thought I would share with you. The first is the Timothy Lake crayfish fishery which is an absolute blast and just about ideal for the kayak angler who wants to get some delicious clean freshwater lobster. The other features the fall crappie fishery at Silver Lake which is a great kayak fishery to bring the kids along or a fish friend who has a short attention span.

Really fun videos. As a cajun transplant I could really get into catchin' some mudbugs. Never fished Timothy, did you camp there?

Took my grandson to Silver Lake a couple of years ago and he was out catching me on the crappie. Sure looks fun the way you're doing it. There's supposed to be some really big bass in Silver but I only was getting tiny ones.

I'm up for another shot at Silver, too!

Yes there are plenty of campgrounds along the shore of the lake that you can camp at. We camped near the Oak Fork cove area and found plenty of "mudbugs" right offshore.

As for Silver Lake there are def big Largemouth Bass in that lake but they are well educated!

Thanks for the educational videos, Tyler!

I've heard some people say that crayfish are delicious -- how do you cook them?  Recipe?  Do you eat the shell and all, or crack it open like "lobster"...sure does look like a lot of work to crack those tiny bugs!  Is it worth the effort??

A simple way is to boil them in Old Bay (throw in some halved potatoes and shucked corn if you want) - they'll turn red like lobster. You usually just eat the tail meat - sometimes a claw is big enough to be worth cracking into. Basically you break the tail off and pry it apart and then pull the meat off. Everyone's tastes vary but if you like seafood in general and like crab and lobster in particular I don't know why you wouldn't love them. Some people can't get past the fact that they're freshwater I guess.

If you don't want to experiment on your own the first time you can always make a trip to Joe's Crab Shack and get a crawfish boil.

"boil them in Old Bay" - Sacrilege! Gotta use Zataran's Crab Boil if you want real Cajun Mudbugs.
