I've decided to try to follow the trail being blazed by surf12foot and go to sea with a fly rod... but I have zero experience with sinking lines or sinking tips or any line that doesn't float, and there isn't a fly shop down this way to help me out.

Is there an online site or a book you might recommend where I can learn about them?

Washington Fly Fishers is the place to go! Solid forum. It's our equivalent, but fly rods instead of kayaks.

Thanks!  It is a good forum - more information than I could find on the NAFF forum - and I've picked up a ghost of a clue just from reading current threads.

Side note: called the Caddis Fly Shop and will be getting a phone call this morning to explain it "for dummies" style.  Those folks are great!
