Hi everybody,

I'm pretty new to the sport but love what I've seen so far.  Haven't got myself a kayak yet, just waiting for the Perception Pescador 12 to go on sale.  I hear that's a good yak get my feet wet.  If I can save up enough by the time summer hits I am considering going waist deep and getting a Jackson Cuda.  Hope I can find people to show me the ropes while I'm here.  Thanks for reading.

Welcome. There is a fairly active group of in the Rose City metro area. I kayak fish a lot on both sides of the Columbia. You should try and join up with Lower Columbia Kayak Anglers on Facebook. We organize a few kayak fishing social events each year. Its a great way to meet folks and see a variety of kayaks.

Thanks, I'll check them out.  I know there's a portland kayak group on MeetUp but I don't think they're anglers.

Hi All,
My name is Todd, I'm currently from Northern California, but will be relocating my family to Coeur D'alene next summer.  I'm currently an Ocean fisherman, but I grew up in Wyoming fly fishing for trout and am looking forward to returning to my fishing roots.  I currently have a Hobie Revo 13 and have almost completed construction of a 14' wooden sea kayak.

I look forward to getting to know some of you, (if only online) and joining you on the water when I get moved.

Fish On!

Howdy, I'm from the same area as you - near Meldrum park. There's a lot of fun fishing to be had on the river right in our backyard. Looking forward to hearing more about your boat when you get it - welcome aboard!

Hi Redbeard, thanks for the warm welcome. Since you know these waters better than I do, I hope I can come to you for tips when I get ready to head out.

Welcome aboard !

Why on earth would you proceed with buying a Pesdador, if you already know you want to upgrade to a Cuda ?

Unless you are planning on keeping the Pescador as a backup, and intend on coming into a windfall of coin, I think you would do better to buy the cuda right off the bat, even if it means going a month or 4 without any kayak.

Unless there is doubt in your mind about the whole kayak fishing thing in the first place. For example, I know the kayak I bought last year is not The Yak. I really need a pedal yak, almost (but not absolutely) certainly a Hobie Outback. If I knew then what I know now, I would not have bought what I bought. But I'm OK with my original yak purchase from a risk standpoint.

If you are sure you are going for a Cuda by summer and the only thing holding you back is cash flow, then IMO buying the Pescador only puts you into a yak you know you don't want, earlier, and pushed out the timetable for the yak you really want.
