Anchor Wizard Review

This post got me wondering about anchor line management in general. I've used the B. Steve's method ever since Pelagic taught it to me, and used an electrical cord winder to manage the anchor line. Anyone ever use an old heavy duty level wind reel and 65 pound braid as an anchor line? Of course it would be immersed during deployment, so it should be a rugged old salt water reel.

When I fished with GreatBass2 a couple of weeks ago he had a homemade downrigger using an old line counter reel and a stiff rod cut off. Very cool system.

You know whatever works for you go with it.  If there is more then one way of getting things done, that's cool.  Thanks fellas for sharing.  GreatBass2 is indeed MacGyver when it comes to kayak fishing.

As far as having 65lb braid as the anchor line you may need some quality guides or rollers from shaving off the guides and fab a mount for the reel.  It can be done.     

I wouldn't attach an anchor to a gear track without a backing plate, and maybe not even then...

You may have a point. I forgot as rotomolded polyethylene kayaks are softer than Eddylines Carbonlite 2000 material.
