I spend a beautiful Friday (partly sunny, light breezes) exploring the area around the bridges (took home 2 'blacks' and released 2 larger 'coppers'), and I also brought up a red rock crab that grabbed my gulp minnow...

Anyone know what the crabbing is like this time of year in the area around the RR bridge and just up and down from it?  Any special areas to make sure and drop a pot on my next trip down there?...   cheers, roger

Should be some crab around there. I see people crabbing a lot off of the small bridge on trans-pacific road, north of the railroad bridge. You would probably have better luck down in Charleston, but if you are fishing the trestles anyway, might as well drop a pot.

thanks Evan...heavy rain winter like this one totally blows the larger crab out up here (Siuslaw) and it is just a waste of bait to drop pots until about June, I was hoping that wasn't true in Coos Bay so I'll give it a go...cheers, roger

Every crab I've ever caught out of that area was a Red Rock. No Dungies. I've tried many locations from the bridge down to the boat launch.
Better to keep ones mouth shut and presumed a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

yep, that is mostly what I found, I had one dungie right at the minimum size but he was a 'hockey puck' so I tossed him back to hopefully grow his claws back for someone else to enjoy...I took home one big Red Rock and released 6 coppers, I just couldn't find any blacks or lings...I am now wondering if there are any bottom fishing locations down near Charleston where the crabbing will be better...cheers, roger
