Making the short trip to Homer Thursday for a Hali.  The weather is looking ok I have fished in worse, have a friend coming with, we both limited a quarter mile off the spit in mid November with 10 pounders no reason why we shouldn't run into one or..... not a good enough reason not to try

Please keep us posted on your halibut trip. I am very interested in knowing if they are out there this time of year.  I heard best time to fish halibut is between May-September but with this weather its very tempting to make a trip down south just to get the kayak wet.

Good luck!  No reason you don't have a shot at smaller chickens.  Still being landed by the king salmon troll fleet.

The weather not looking so great though! Be safe if ya go!

How was the drive down?  Was it icy?  How is the weather in Homer?  Hahaha.  Sorry for the million questions.  I'm really thinking about heading there this long weekend.  Especially now that there's signs of hope thanks to your post.

gravesjacob:  Awesome job in getting that last of the year halibut!  That is awesome!!!!  How was the water clarity.  Since this weekend will be January, I'll be targeting kings with the halibut closure for the month.

AkYakSplash, if my current work crisis allows, I may head down Sunday but its 50/50 now.

Some more hardcore folks!  I like it!  Be safe!!!!

Black Cod? How big???

I caught a bunch of 12 to 16 inch ones this summer and cooked them up last night and they were awesome.  Be fun to catch a few that were better in size!  You are a maniac!  Love it!

Just curious, how do you cook them generally? They're pretty oily right?
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I get to kill something.

Awesome.  They aren't a true cod.  Most expensive commercial fish in Alaska though they are 5 to 20 pounds generally on the commercial market.  We caught hundreds this summer.  First time ever.  The small ones are tasty though.  Smoke black cod is awesome.  First dish gone at the New Years eve party last night...though 75% of the folks were Japanese.  lol.
