I have a Rev13 and the Hobie install kit seems easy, but unnecessary.

For a SLA, do most just velcro them under a hatch?

What's the cheapest decent charging solution for a SLA? I may have an old trickle charger somewhere in the garage.

Here's what I use:  http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0123-Junior-Charger/dp/B000CITK8S
I really like it after using it for a couple years.

As far as mounting it in the kayak, it's best to keep the battery in some kind of container that will keep it dry, like a dry bag.  I have mine in a pelican box that has a plug on the side so I never have to take it out of the box. The same plug for the charger is what I use to connect it to my sonar.

I've been using the 7ah and 8ah SLA brick batteries since I started in 2008 and until I can be convinced that there is something more reliable, cheap and marine friendly I probably won't switch.  Yes, the SLA batteries weigh more than the LiPo or Anker batteries, but none of my kayaks are effected by 5-7lbs of battery.

I too have mine in a nice Pelican case, with a fuse and completely watertight.  Good clean install, and works like a champ.
