Had two nice days fishing out of Homer on Wednesday and Thursday - the 6th and 7th.  Ran into Low_Sky on the beach about noon on Wednesday.  After fishing that morning he was wrapping things up and offered me his leftover herring.  I trolled Coho Killers most of the afternoon and only caught two cod.  So I plug-cut one of those herring and rigged it behind a Fish-Flash and a Deep-Six diver.  Shortly after sunset it was getting dark fast and I was headed for the barn when the king rolled in on that herring and nailed it.  A nice 9 pounder.  I stuck the picture in my profile there to the upper left but I'm going to try attaching it also just to see if it takes.  Only two more cod the next day.  Hit the weather window just right though - it was beautiful out there.  Thanks for the herring Low_Sky!  I owe you one...

Nice work! It will be a couple more weeks before I can make it there, I'm about to run out of my winter king stash in the freezer so I need to go! Looks like you had a beautiful sunset there as well. Love that place...
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I get to kill something.

Hi AkYakSplash,

The water was mostly smooth with a slight swell running.  There were a couple of times when the wind kicked up and it got a little choppy, but then it smoothed right out again.  It was a nice weather window between the storms.

The water was 38 degrees so the dry suit is mandatory, of course.  I use a full-on Kokotat front entry dry suit - neck seal and all - layered up with insulation underneath.  I like Ibex and Icebreaker wool base layers with a Polartec 200 fleece suit over that.  GoreTex gloves, or mittens when it's cold, keep my hands warm.  But even with several layers of wool socks inside the GoreTex booties built-in to the dry suit and some NRS neoprene booties on my feet were still getting cold while peddling.  So I dug out the electric socks I use for skiing when it's real cold and put them on inside the dry suit booties.  When the toes start getting cold I turn them on.  Oh - what a great feeling!  Toasty warm toes.  So I don't get cold at all out there anymore.
