After doing some research I decided to try the new Hobie H rail on the new Hobie Outback limited edition. The price was pretty decent. I paid $24.99 for the 21 inch and I believe the 9 inch was $19.99. I have a couple of Hobie kayaks so I decided to purchase 4 21" H rails for one on each side. After I installed the first rail I found the rail to be slightly weak and would probably not hold a good size halibut during a strike. Possibly a salmon. So I decided to only use one on each kayak and installed A Scotty mount with a backing plate for my rod holders. I will most likely use the H rail for other accessories such as a fish finder mount, gopro mount, and rod holder mount. Here are some pictures. Please comment and share your thoughts. Also please share what you have mounted on your kayaks. Thank you.

I'm not a Hobie guy, but I set up a PA14 for a friend and fished from it, but yeah, I didn't care for mounting a rod holder on the H-rail....too much movement. I do think the H-rail itself is sturdy enough. What about using a Scotty rail mount or this system from Stealth Rod Holders? http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=16986.0

I am in a Propel 13 now, it has factory mounting tracks all over the gunwales, but I still don't care for how much movement there is with a rod holder mounted on them. I've ordered the Stealth rod holder and rail adapter in the hopes it will be much more sturdy. If not, I'll go with a fixed mount drilled and screwed into the gunwale after I find the most efficient location for my a rod holder.

I think I might have met you at homer last year. I believe I caught you while you were lunching or packing up at the end of the spit there. You mentioned you were the only person in Alaska that has the Propel 13. How do you like the Propel 13? I know you have the advantage of going backwards. Is it pretty easy to use? That stealth Rod Holder looks pretty sweet I might have to invest in one of those. I like the quick release feature. I currently have a Scotty mount drilled into my kayak with a backing plate. That sucker isn't going anywhere. But I heard the rail tracking systems work really well too but requires a lot of drilling. Also heard the track systems are quite stable due to the length of the track.

Wasn't me in Homer, I just got my Propel in October. Haven't had the chance to take it out yet...but in two weeks, Homer tourney!

I think there are at least four of us in Propels up here now. I've haven't heard any negatives about them yet.

I was planning on ordering a PA12 but was intrigued by the Propels, just didn't see how I'd get one up here with out huge shipping costs (REI is a Native dealer, but I'm no fan of them.) I saw my Propel for sale on one of the Facebook fishing sites on JBER and jumped on it. Got a great deal and paid ZERO shipping.

Just got the Stealth rod holder...awesome design, really like the track adapter, but my bigger jigging and halibut rods don't fit. Guess I'll stick with the Scotty gearhead track adapters. They are so much easier to lock into place without having to line up the tabs inside.
