For those interested, I believe the youth/juvenile fishing regulations for Oregon are new/updated for 2016:

http://www.dfw.state.or.us/resources/licenses_regs/youth.asp

Youth Fishing License Requirements
To fish for trout, warmwater fish, marine species other than salmon and Pacific halibut
   * Youth 11 and younger no NOT need a license.
   * Youth 12 to 17 need a Youth License (includes Angler, Hunter, Shellfish, and Columbia River Basin Endorsement)

To fish for salmon, steelhead, sturgeon and Pacific halibut
   * Youth 11 and younger need a FREE Youth Angling License and must purchase a Juvenile Combined Angling Tag.
   * Youth 12 to 17 must purchase a Youth License and a Juvenile Combined Angling Tag.

To crab or clam
   * Youth 11 and younger do NOT need a license.
   * Youth 12 to 17 must purchase a Youth License (includes Angler, Hunter, Shellfish, and Columbia River Basin Endorsement)

Looks like the cost is either $10 for youth license or $15 for youth licence and tag.

In summary, 12/13 year olds now require a license, but the cost of the license/tag has gone down for all those under 18.  The license/tag includes hunting/shellfish/CRBE - nothing else required (unless hunting birds).

And a reminder from NW Sportsman:

http://nwsportsmanmag.com/headlines/odfw-reminding-moms-dads-kids-young-12-need-fishing-licenses/

Quote
Although fishing now requires a license two years earlier than in the past – at age 12 instead of age 14 – the cost of the license is significantly less than it was in years past. Now a combination youth hunting/fishing/shellfishing license costs just $10. For just $5 more, youngsters can also purchase a tag that will allow them to catch salmon, steelhead, sturgeon and halibut. The $15 combined cost of a youth license and tag in 2016 compares to a cost of $41.75 last year, a cost reduction of 64 percent.

As noted in this article, for those coming to visit Oregon, there is no distinction between resident/non-resident for the youth license/tag.  Though out of state adults pay more, kids do not.

My fishing buddy is 4 and 1/2 so I'm good for a while. Thanks for posting that up for those with little fishing buddies.

Thanks for posting this. My boy actually pointed this out to me before I'd even noticed; both my kids are 12 now so bummer for me. But I'm glad they dropped the price.
