Anyone with much experience kayak fishing there? I have never been, and I have a few buddies from the bay area wanting to meet up for camping and fishing and this looks to be about half way for both of us (and I don't have to buy a California license  :banjo: ) I told them it's probably too cold to get much action this time of year just yet, but I wasn't sure... Any advice?

I suggest doing a little reading about Upper Klamath Lake, if you haven't already. It's an interesting story of competing ag/environmental issues, algae blooms, and general poor management of a valuable resource.

I can't comment on the fishing. Haven't been there in a long time.

I know fishing around Rocky Point can be good, but I haven't been there since 2001 and I'm definitely not an expert.

Thanks! I have done a little research on it and it definitely looks like a contentious subject and resource with the water right issues and conservation efforts. There's not much info out there on the fishing there. I see it's got a 1 fish limit but read a few places that most don't eat the fish from there (which is fine on both accounts for me.) One must assume that with little info out there on fishing there that it's not so hot for the most part.

I was never very fond of Klamath Lake...it's a big weedy mess in most areas.  Other lakes that would be a decent choice would be be Fourmile Lake right at the base of Mt McLoughlin and boarded by wilderness, Fish Lake, or Lake of the Woods.  Howard Prairie is also near by and usually has decent fishing.

Thank you for the tips. I'll push for one of the other areas mentioned instead. Thanks!!

I've fished it in the warmer months and done well. Lots of good sized fish. The fish concentrate in the cooler water at the mouths of the rivers. This time of year, I would guess they are spread out all over the lake.   I agree with Rummy. The lake stinks literally and so do the fish. Half of the fish I caught looked like they had some sort of infection. Fourmile lake is a really nice place to kayak. I fished it once for a few hours and didnt catch anything, but it was still very enjoyable.

Paulina Lake and East Lake has some good opportunities for fish plus there are places to stay.  Has big browns and rainbow.  Not an option right now though.
"A venturesome minority will always be eager to get off on their own,
and no obstacle should be placed in their path;
let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,
eaten by bears, buried alive under avalanches -
that is the right and privilege of any free American."

Might think about Selmac Lake, pretty close to the Cali border, has some great largemouth bass fishing, rainbow trout fishing is usually pretty decent also.

Selmac and Applegate both good options. State record bass have come out of Selmac in the past.

Thanks guys!! All seem like better options over Klamath especially being a bit stinky and while I am not a huge fish eater my buddies are.

Actually this is one of the best times to fish Klamath Lake .In fact we are going kayak fishing this weekend at the Eagle Ridge Campground . Early in the year the fish are looking for minnows right next to the bank .The water is relatively clear 4 Klamath Lake.Later in the year the water warms up and the algae gets thick that's when the fish head to the colder water near Rocky Point .There are some very large trout in Klamath Lake .Last year I caught a 25 inch 5 pound trout .M y son has caught 30 inch trout .All of the higher Lakes are not fishable yet   PM me if you come this way

Will do! Nothing in stone yet. It's difficult to get these guys to commit to anything. Will definitely let you know if we head that way.
