Anyone going fishing on saturday? And if so, what for and where at? I'm interested in trying for springers before the showdown but need to know more on what type of terminal tackle I need. If braid/line #, bead chains, swivels, and weight. Let me know if anyone is interested.

If you need to know about terminal tackle for springers-----

Do a little bit of searching .

There is all the info you could possibly use all over this and other forums right now............sheeeeeh.  ::) ::) ::)
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Here's a pretty decent tutorial on rigging the bait. You'll find there's different herring "colors" and everyone has their favorites.

The lowest barrier to entry in salmon fishing is Brad's fake cut plugs. Robo-herring, I calls 'em. Less prep work and easier to handle on the water than real bait.

Do you have a preferred product to put inside the Brad's? I have a few of the super baits and just the regular plugs but have always used cut plug herring.

I have some Brad baits, and I did pick up some kwik fish also. Is anyone planning on going out on saturday?

The tried and true choice is canned tuna, but the cool thing about these baits is one can stuff 'em with anything. Even yarn with different scents can work.

I'll be on the river this Saturday, not quite sure where though. I'm sure there will be plenty of kayakers fishing in the usual spots that have been in the spotlight lately so just go and see who you bump into.

I'll throw in some info too:

- 40lb mainline, 25-30 lb leader
- 3/0 hooks, I like Gami Big River Bait
- ~48" leader length, try not to go much longer
- ~24" lead dropper on a weight slider on the mainline, I use 15lb test.
- 4 to 8 ounces of lead, cannonball style
- if you use a flasher, add a bumper section that is just longer than your lead dropper line
- use herring helmets if you're not sure how to get the right roll on your herring
- buy bait with lots of scales, brine at least overnight in very salty water that isn't from the tap
- use a cut plug tool to cut your herring so you get the right bevel on your bait
- search the web for how to rig a cutplug herring - there's lots of info out there.

Thanks for the question and the input all. I'm going to be in the area in a couple weeks and have never been much of a River salmon fisherman, only ever caught 2 fall run in the Sacramento from a power boat. I do pretty good on the salt. I've been watching g YouTube videos and angler west episodes on topic and have a pretty good feel I think. Can't wait to try it out.

From what I can tell, barbless is required, marked chinook only no wild and no coho, no gaffs allowed, Columbia River endorsement required, report card required, daytime only, and from there just get your presentation in front of the fish and get to work.

Missing anything?

Thanks again.
