Ouch....Yup, that is a painful lesson.

Hopefully it was coming in versus on the way out.  I was sick all weekend.  Hoping for better weather this upcoming weekend.

What a tuff loss, i use a heavy tool leash and have hulied or turtled as we say down here many times, yall know its gonna happen and always when youbdont expect it but if you challange the surf you will win a lot of times but you know your gonna get your butt kicked from time to time and all you can do is tie stuff up so your losses are not so painful. Guess I just clean up my stuff and look for the next favorable
Or doable( maybe) surf to try, hope to fish with you this summer. Art

And I'm guessing you must have lost it below the low tide line. That hurts just thinking about it.

I have mine leashed to one of thread-in plastic pad eyes, but a couple weeks ago I noticed that my boat had slid on the roof rack and one of the eyes around the tank well had jumped a thread. It makes me wonder if I should get a stainless pad eye and install it with a large backing plate for the drive. I don't know how much shock load it would take to pop one of those plastic eyes loose, but I don't want to find out the hard way.

Grrrr. Sorry to hear that. How frustrating. At least you are safe. The kayak contains a bungee that holds the mirage drive in flat position. Normally I utilize when launching and landing.  Just have to be careful landing too shallow. Mirage drive still strapped to kayak but found removing the mirage drive during landing is more of a distraction than affective. Surfs must've been huge.

I donated a harpoon to Neptune on Saturday. I knew it didn't float and that I shouldn't take it out, but I did anyway. Oops!
