I'm so making one of these:

My shoulders are shot so I can't paddle much and my bad leg gets tired easily so this would be super cool for me!

Don't tell dannybay.  He'll yell at me for buying stuff  >:D
It's only about 100.00.  Better than the $2000+ for the motor that you can get from Hobie.

Ya know, i bet you could put 2 elbows in and bring the head unit close than touch-your-toes distance, or for that matter, splice in longer wires and mount the head unit on your rail with the wires run inside the hull.

I may very well queue this up for a winter project.

I've thought about this from a pure fun perspective, but then I would have to go to all the trouble of registering the kayak and all the paperwork (probably not too bad but I need to convince myself it's horrible.) It is definitely a slick way of doing it though on the cheap. Much better looking than a PVC contraption.

Register the kayak?  If the HP is low enough do I still need a license?  Didn't think about that.......  still going to build it.....

Julie,
Yes any boat with a motor is required to be registered and have the registration displayed. For your 11 ft kayak it would be about $50 for two years.

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

Yea- I went out and looked.  Anything over 10HP needs a license.  Since the salt water trolling motor I was looking at was 18HP. I would need one.  This is a slippery slope for me.  Dannybay is keeping his eye out for a PB.  I wouldn't wait to start that avalanche.....

Over 10 you need a Boaters License
But you still need a Registration with the Oregon State Marine Board for all boats with any size motor.

that is correct.  in Oregon, any boat with any size or type of motor needs to be registered and have ID numbers on the hull.  cheers, roger

Also the saltwater trolling motor is likely 18lb thrust which is VERY different and much slower than 18hp  :D As mentioned you would need to register it, but not need to get the boater education card/license/thingymajiggy.
