I am wondering while fishing the coast, are you drifting or anchoring?  If anchored, how are you anchoring?

Mostly drifting.. occasionally if it's windy I might deploy a drift sock.  Ideally you get just enough drift to cover some decent area but not so much that you're snagging the bottom constantly.

The only time I've ever anchored out on the coast is when I was diving and needed to be sure the kayak was still there when I came up.

I've never anchored on the ocean, just drift. I haven't had too much problem with snags, usually pedal past it the opposite way and have good luck coming unsnagged.
See ya on the water..

I've tied up to some kelp before to keep me in place but have not used my kayak anchor in the ocean yet, come to think of it I haven't used my anchor yet period.

If you own a lip gripper, they can also be used as a makeshift kelp anchor.

Very good one B. Nothing better than making one piece of equipment do double duty and lighten your load. ;)

Here is a good thread on that subject. A few choices to be made if ya like.
