Hi folks,

The vantage seating, upgraded drive system, and lowrance ready mount has been temping me for a while now and I'm finally giving in. This Saturday I will be heading to the shop to get a new Revo13 or outback. I have been leaning towards a outback due to my size (6'3" 245) but the speed of the revo is very appealing. The kayak will be used for salmon trolling, bottom fishing, and halibut. I won't have to venture out very far for any of these, but I would love to hear your opinions!

Thanks!

Both are outstanding platforms. There are many pros to both models, but I personally lean towards the more efficient Rev 13. Especially for the fishing you have listed. That boat will save you a lot of kicks by the end of the day, and will paddle WAY better in the event your drive malfunctions.

Also, your height/weight won't be an issue for either boat. You will feel a little more stable initially in the Outback. The Revo is a very stable platform as well, but it will likely feel twitchy to you at first. This feeling will quickly go away.

If you plan on trolling for salmon in tide water, go with the revo. I am biased because I mainly salmon fish where the currents are strong. I have both and use the Revo for trolling. As Polyangler said, the twitchyness will be gone soon. Probably within the first hour, if not sooner. Although, your case does not apply here because both boats are great boats, you will find many a short wide used kayak available. Why? Because everyone was concerned about stability when they first bought them. Then they realized they were going slow and the yak didn't like going straight so they put it on craigslist so they can upgrade.

I am pretty close to your size and have both a revo 13 and an outback.  For me, I really prefer the deck space on the outback for my everyday fishing.  The only time I choose to take the revo is if I am going to be covering a lot of miles.

That being said, you will not go wrong with either.  They are both great kayaks.  If you get an opportunity I would suggest doing a demo of both.  I know it is a ways, but Kayak Shed in Hood River is doing a demo day this Saturday to coinside with the Bonnaville Bass Bonanza.

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

Would you like a wrench thrown in? Have you looked at the native propels?

Depending on where your "local" shop is (considering how far away from *everything* Forks is...), try both Hobies, and if you can make it to Gig Harbor you should try a Native Slayer Propel too.  You may find you prefer it to the Hobie drive.  I can vouch for its comfort, stability, and ease of covering distance...

I have an oasis, outback, and revo 13. I primarily ocean fish and salmon fish and it's a hands down revo 13 for me. Bass fishing is pick the outback. But you can definitely do all in either
