If the weather doesn't cooperate, are you guys mobile enough to make it to Seward?  Resurrection Bay has its own weather quirks (afternoon winds), but doesn't get the ripping current that Cook Inlet does, so it's one less variable to have to plan for.

I second that. Last August I was blown of WG, went to Seward and had a great day. I was searching for black Cod (no luck there but I did well on P Cod, Rock fish and small halibut on a Blue Bird day.

I pushed the limit in 3 to 5ft swells. Road a wave in perfect but still ended up mushrooming my rudder pin. It's not worth it.

I'd second the Resurrection Bay suggestion. The fish may not be as big and the halibut rather sparse, but I kind of like not knowing what I might hook into next. Drive up, sleep away the afternoon, and then launch once the wind dies down. Launching at Lowell Point is usually pretty tame, and I've had some pretty good days right out in front of Tonsina Creek. I love fishing through the early hours of the morning there this time of year. It's really a beautiful place to catch a fish.
