I have always wanted to get a fishing kayak but have always had financial obstacles.. Debt being the biggest and now I have a baby.. I started this GoFundMe page for fellow fishermen to help me out on my fishing conquest! Please help with whatever you can, make this dream a reality! Thank you!

And who exactly are you?

Feel free to date us a while before asking us to wine and dine you.   ::)

I'm just an everyday joe who dreams to be able to fish off a kayak, enter a couple competitions and need the help of some nice people.

I read your GoFundme page and get the gist of your campaign.

However, it strikes me oddly how you are going about this.

For that reason... I am out.

I'm asking you too, what would you change?

I'm pretty sure nobody here has any idea who you are.
Do you even know who we are?

It is customary to facilitate a good relationship with the kayak community before asking for money from them.
In doing it right, you may get a lead to nice used one, or one donated to you.  If that is really your passion.

If you were local to the Pacific North Wet, you would be in a better position to plead your need by showing up to and helping out the various tournaments we have out here.  That and get on the water with others that might have a spare kayak to lend.

Try this in your current area and see if this will work for you.

Whatever happened to the traditionalist approach to getting things you can't afford, like knocking over gas stations ?

Holly crapshoot that's got to be hands down the worst introduction post I have seen, and I have seen some bad ones , like "hi". Would you walk into a church for the first time and say " Hi love the place and what you do, can I have the money from the collection plate?" I recommend you sit down and take a long deep look at yourself and figure out why your getting the responses that your getting. FWIW I always offer to take people that are interested and boat-less fishing .... Taking doryman out tomorrow and I reach out to people truly wanting to get into this sport, but your approach is backwards as well as insulting regardless of your situation or intention.

On June 4, a coast to coast unsupported bike race started in Astoria.  The race goes to Williamsburg, Virginia, along the Adventure Cycling TransAm route, with no support vans, and no drafting.  See http://transambikerace.com/ ,
http://trackleaders.com/transam16 , and https://www.facebook.com/groups/524758520982933/ .  One of the competitors is a woman from Great Britain.  My sister, a very active bicyclist, gave her a place to stay and dinner on her first night in Corvallis. The next day the woman stopped for lunch near McKenzie Pass, and somebody stole her bike and all her gear except for what she had in a handlebar bag she took into the restaurant.  My sister drove out, picked her up, gave her some biking gear and clothing, and brought her to Eugene.  She thought her race was over.  But her sister in Great Britain set up a crowdfunding page, and in a day or so raised about $5,000 to replace her bike and equipment.  The contributions, most in the $10-$15 range, came from all over the US and Great Britain, from people who thought it was terrible that her bike and equipment had been stolen at the beginning of this demanding race.  She was able to get a suitable bike, assemble all her gear, and rejoin the race in Wyoming.  I assisted her when she came through Missoula.

This woman had a very compelling story, and I think it's wonderful that dozens of strangers were able to help her replace her bike and equipment so she could continue racing across the country.  DavetheFisherman, your story is a bit less compelling.  And in fact, it sounds like an inept scam.  If you wanted advice and assistance in learning how to kayak fish, I'd be glad to help.  If you wanted somebody to take you out kayak fishing so you could try it, I'd be willing to assemble gear and take you out on the water.  But I'm not going contribute to your GoFundMe page. Sorry.

And as quick as it was put up, the gofundme page is no longer.

Was it from tbe advice we gave, or maybe he sold his 80's Transformer's collection on Ebay - we may never know.

Random clown posts up from 3,000 miles away and immediately starts begging for money so he can buy a luxury item.

Yeah, that's not a good look.
