I'm looking at buying a Lowrance Hook 4 fish finder. I'm wondering if it is worth the extra $30 for the Navionics+ features?

If you fish salt, it probably is. Freshwater map packs usually only have coastal contours to about 60' or so.

Short answer: If you fish waters that it covers, yes.

Long Answer: First time on Tillymuck Bay with the new Hobie, I ran full on to one of the pigs or sows. Outgoing tide, still about 1' below the water. I was hugging the channel in 16' of water. Bent both masts on the drive.

They do show up on Nav+, which I had on my new Hook 4, but I had just got it and hadn't loaded the card yet out of laziness since, after all, I'd been on that water and area before. FAIL.
