This is my first post and I'm just finishing outfitting a Trident 13 with a Lowrance and magnetic mount for the transducer.  Also fabricating a wooden platform behind the seat to mount a Scotty Strong-Arm with swivel.  The mount is custom fit and seems secure and will be test-placing it tonight.  A couple of weeks ago I jigged at Point No Point and had a shaker to the boat, but more frustrating was the seal a few feet behind it.  Anyone had a seal in a net in a kayak?  I've done plenty of long distance kayaking in a sea kayak and and pretty pleased with the stability of the Trident and yet able to move along OK.  I'm in the Kent WA area.

Welcome to the forums!! Sounds like you've got a good head start on things. No experience with seals close to the kayak just yet, have seen a number of Sea lions in the Columbia and Willamette from the kayak, but never up close and personal, I am sure that gave you a good scare! Be sure to post up some pics of your mods and DIY's, we love that sort of thing.

Hope this works. For my downrigger mount I traced a pattern of the opening in the back of the trident 13 and cut 3/8 plywood for top and bottom (it gets wider at the top) and secured top to bottom with stainless screws and glue thru a 1X3.  This fits quite tight and should avoid stress on any plastic. Once I test it I'll use a hole cutter to remove some excess to make it lighter and secure it, but it's only a few pounds right now.  Using a Scotty Strong arm and hoping the system will work with a 10-lb ball.  Big currents in Puget Sound and want to be able to drop up to 150.  Will be switching to braid I think.
I'm using a magnetic thru-hull mount for the transducer but hate reaching inside the kayak through the center hole  so I made a frame from a cutting board (came up with my wife holding the shortened cutting board looking at me:-) that the magnet fits into and riveted Velcro straps to hold it in place when I remove the transducer.  I plan to leave it there is the adhesive holds on plastic.  I can hold the T-unit until I get out a few feet deep and it snaps right into position with the T-unit well under water and is easy to remove when coming in as well and don't have to hunt for the magnet inside.
