Anyone looking for a transducer mounting method? Check this one out. Duct seal molded into a well. I used it on my Malibu Stealth 12 and it worked perfectly. Just remember when you launch to fill the reservoir with a handful or 2 of water.

I knew about the duct seal method, but I had a block of the super-hard foam gathering dust in the garage and went cheap.  Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose...

Thank you.  I'm sure the information will come in handy.

Cheap, couple of dollars at home depot, I think in electrical or pluming. It also allows you to remove finder easily if you want to put it on a new yak.

I spent a fair amount of time experimenting with various transducer mounting options.

Here is a summary:
http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=8495.msg91827#msg91827

The bottom line is I went back to a closed cell foam puck. I believe either the grease mount or the plumbers putty mount killed my transducer by oil seeping into the transducer through the thermocouple button.

Thank you.  I'd read your thread about the putty and oil issues before I tried rock-hard foam.  We learn by our mistakes - but I'm feeling really lucky that mine didn't damage anything more than my pride.   ;D

Go to garden center and buy a "kneeling pad" like the one linked below. It's the perfect kind of foam for making a transducer bath, and the price is right.

Thanks.  Amazon had a 6-inch diameter x 36 inch foam exercise roller on sale for $5 and I went that way.  It's pink, but no one has any business fooling around in my hatches...   ;)
