Hey guys, so a few of us idaho boys are headed to coos bay area next week. We will leave Thursday the 15th and be fishing as much as we can friday and Saturday before heading home sunday.
This will be a kinda quick run for us but, fishninja and I will be bringing an extra along as well.
We are hoping to hook up with a salmon or two and that the ocean is going to let us out this trip! We will keep our fingers crossed.
It would be fun to meet up with anyone who is interested, I personally haven't been that far south on the Oregon Coast but I'm sure we will find fish!!!

There are certainly fish to be had out of Sunset Bay and there are salmon. Not too many people target salmon from there from a kayak much that I know of, but occasionally they are caught while rock fishing. Unless you are rock fishing with a barbless hook, they have to be released.  :-\

If you want to target salmon then you should fish the North Bend/Coos Bay area. You will see the Congo line of boats in the bay trolling.

In any case, you should study the wind, tides and particularly the surf/swell/period if you are going to go out of Sunset. Needless to say the appropriate safety gear as well.
Better to keep ones mouth shut and presumed a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

They aren't yet in the Bay, and the Congo Line hasn't yet formed, but someone told me it shouldn't be long now.  I think they might have told me the exact same thing three weeks and two skunked trips in a row....

Call the outfitters and bait shops and ask about the salmon before you head down.

They've been in the Bay for weeks now, and are already quite a ways up river also. Lots of boats, plenty of fish being caught. The Salmon derby is tomorrow. Should be great fishing while you are here.

I fished Sunset bay on tuesday and it was as slow as i've ever seen it. All the reports i've heard say the same. Things can change quickly though.

Sorry, Merz.  I've been fishing the bay for the past couple of weeks, too, and I haven't seen many boats nor heard of many being caught.  Since my last trip was about this time last week, things most certainly may have changed, but I haven't heard about it.  I blame my sources...

There were lots of fish caught in August. I'm not sure where you've been fishing but salmon fishing is in full swing. I've only been out a few times on the Coos this year but there's definitely plenty of fish being caught.
It's derby weekend and there's a ton of boats out there. I watched them troll by my house this morning, and I could hear the constant roar of boat motors when the fog was still in. I heard reports of two thresher hook ups too.

I've been talking with Logan on FB for a couple months now about the fishing. I think I'll be able to get out there with you guys!

I drove out Ferry road earlier and a guy sitting there said he counted 74 boats at one time on that corner. Saw some hookups while we were there. I might try to get out for the evening bite tonight.

I'd like to try fishing near the RR bridge. Never know what you might hook in there.

I have heard there is a decent place to launch kayaks near the RR bridge.   ;D

I feel like getting out in the ocean more than anything, and that we can squeeze salmon fishing between trying bottom fishing sunset
