Hey all,

Thanks for the membership on these Forums. I came to Alaska 46 winters ago just for the summer with plans to return to Cal at the end of the work season. I'm still here just temporarily...only because I haven't found any other place on Earth that can pull me away from what Alaska and the Kenai Peninsula has to offer me.

I've been following Kardinal_84 for nearly a half dozen years as he progressed from newbie to 'yak master angler. I couldn't take it any longer and 2 weeks ago I followed his advice and dropped the CC on a new Outback from Alaska Raft & Kayak. It's really an interesting chain of events once you buy your first kayak and let your mind wander and ponder all the new avenues of experiences that are now at hand.

I'm already planning some adventures in Kodiak and Whittier next summer as well as hitting Homer during the winter months since its just 80 miles down the road. Hopefully I'll have something to contribute as I gain some experience in this new sport.

Cheers~!  Klondike Kid

WOW, The Klondike Kid on this site - we are all so lucky!!! I used to enjoy his site so much! I don't post much but I love this site. My son-in-law, daughter and grandchildren live in Homer and we just spent 6 weeks there fishing our brains out. I am going to have to drag my Outback up from Phoenix next summer!

Hey KK! Let's fish!

i just checked the Homer webcam. Total GLASS today. Many boats of all sizes trolling around on a blue bird day. I'm working towards getting the boat ready for maybe Friday for some power trolling with experimentals since I want to use my Gopro downrigger system which is not compatible with the kayak. Hope to break open some new techniques, or at least scratch them from the list as a non-producer. So I might be out there in a 16' flatbottom.

 Hey KK

 Welcome to NWKA.
You made a good decision to join the plastic navy.
Now go out there and have some fun with it.
I listened to much of your wisdom while I was in Alaska.
Looking forward to seeing you adapt and overcome this new challenge.
 You're gonna love this stuff.

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Hey Mark, thanks for the welcome and following.

And I have to agree, this is going to be a fun and educational ride! And the best part is it offers spontaneous and affordable outings without the hassles of power boating complications. And even more beneficial is the kayak's ability to engage in fisheries or areas where power boats don't have easy or any access for lack of formal launch ramps.

I'm really glad to see the Alaskan kayak crowd growing at an impressive rate (thanks to Rudy and the other pioneers!) which means that once we hit a minimum "saturation" point, there should always be someone available to meet up with and go track down some fish.  :)
