Does anyone have any good, close in, spots for blackmouth in Bellingham Bay that they are willing to share?

I work nights and am wanting to find a few spots I can hit up before I head to the salt mines. Off the top of my head I can think of the drop off by the bouy at Post Point. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Kyle

There will be very, very few blackmouth in bellingham bay.  Blackmouth like the deeper edges of landmasses that have alot of current running by them.  Bham bay has none of that.  From fern point to village point on lummi is a good place, and there is a county park that puts you right there at fern pt... just across the street from the willows restaurant.  If you have a way of getting to sinclair island, there's great blackmouth at buoys 16 and 2 just off the n side.  Another good spot is just off the NW side of fidalgo head in anacortes.  Easy access from washington park.  Good luck!

Thanks for the info!

I never realized how many runs the Lummi ferry made each day. I just assumed it would be a deal breaker for getting into work on time, but I can definitely make that work.

Washington Park is a little far for a before work run, but I plan to head out there on my days off. The wife and I were there Friday but the current coming out of of the Guemes Channel was too much for her so we just messed around in the bay. If you hug the bank on the way back can you sort of eddy hop your way back to the ramp from the NW part of Fidalgo Head on a ebb tide?

Fidalgo head is incoming only for blackmouth.  But you can make it back to washington park no matter what the current is.  The fishing area starts only a few hundred yards from the launch.  Head straight west from WA park a few hundred yards then when you get to the first corner, turn left and you're there.  Fish starting at that corner, going south around the head til you get to the first pass, then go back.  60-110 feet.

Rory, Do these areas work for summer salmon, too? My daughter and family live in Port Angeles and it looks like a transfer to Bellingham is imminent. I've learned a lot about Area 4-6 on the peninsula, but know little about Bellingham salt water. It looks like we may be there in July and a future move isn't out of the question. Can we expand the topic beyond Blackmouth?

Thanks,
Anyone ever launch from San Juan County Park? The structure on west bank of the island looks favorable and a ferry ride plus a drive could make a nice trip with camping at the park. I may want to try a few options in July that aren't too far away.

I have not but be UBER careful with the currents on the islands. I've gotten myself in some scary situations out there.

Roger that. Looking at DeepZoom forecasts now. I'm looking also at the camping thread for Sucia. The Islands are calling out to me. I'll keep researching.

Iceman,
Daughters in college tend to take us to new parts of the country! That's how I got, there, too. Still fishing Area 7 when I visit. If we are ever there at the same time, I would love to team up.

I will definitely post a heads up here when I make plans to head that way to fish. She is flying home for Thanksgiving and then Christmas so may have to look into some Spring opportunities.
