Just got a birthday gift from my lady and I received the Yak Attack Visipole II, which was not on my list (she requested a list).  The original Visipole (collapsible) was on my list.

What i am wondering is does anyone have any experience with this new model.  Clearly, its a one piece non-collapsable design.  I run a Malibu Stealth 12 and the Visipole II will fit inside my internal hatch, so it can be stowed.  The Visipole II also seems to be  6 inches taller.

Anyhow, looking at some feed back and comparisons before I hit the "return and replace button." (And avoiding the extra shipping and restocking fee).  It was purchased directly from Yak Attack I believe.

Thanks.

They look real nice but I coudln't pull the trigger on buying two of those so I build the redneck version out of PVC and an LED camp light.

I got the idea from this video:

My take - I have a Visi-carbon, like what you asked for, that a friend gave to me, and I have a ATV whip flag that I made. I use the ATV whip almost exclusively, and here is why:

1) The whip is 6' tall and can be seen over ocean swells and is in line of sight for power boaters on rivers and lakes. The #1 reason for flying a flag is to make yourself visible. Every inch of height counts. The Visi-pole you received is taller, and that is important.

2) My ATV flagpole is near indestructible. I have rolled in the surf at PC several times, and that flag is still the same height. My friend's Visi-carbon is several inches shorter after his 1st huli at PC. I have heard of several others who had to repair their Visi-carbon. The Visi-pole you got is fiberglass - like my ATV flagpole - and is probably more durable.

I use my Visi-carbon in low light situations for the light, but I can use it and my ATV flag at the same time, so I do in those conditions. Carrying a 6' flag pole is not a problem in comparison to carrying a 13' yak. I personally would rather have the Visi-pole than the Visi-carbon. You may disagree.

Might as well keep the longer one. I only break my visi-carbon down as a novelty. if I have it on the boat it is there for a reason and not coming off till I get to the car. I don't always use it only in low/no light conditions or around large numbers of PB. The atv whip discussed fits in the base same as the pole on the visi carbon not sure about the 2. I assume if the pole detaches it will work as well.

Great.  Thanks for the feed back.  I'll hold on to it.

The problem with most commercially available safety flags and lights is that the poles are short, and the flags are small.  I made a 7 foot tall safety flag pole with a big flag and a light which mounts half-way up the pole, which I like better than any commercially available safety flag.  See http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=15155.msg164358#msg164358 .  You could get much the same result by mounting a safety flag and light on a spare fishing rod.

If you decide to use a fiberglass bike or ATV flag on your kayak, look for a real stiff one.  Most bike and ATV safety flags are fairly flimsy, and will drive you crazy by constantly flopping back and and forth in the wind, and as your kayak rocks on waves.
