The lakes in Western Montana are still open, so I may be able to sneak in another day of kayak fishing this weekend.

However, the weather is supposed to get down below zero next week, as shown by this Seeley Lake weather prediction.  So the lakes in the area may freeze up next week.  The ice could get thick fast, since no snow is predicted.  Snow would insulate the new ice from the cold air.

So it looks like the beginning of the end of the kayak fishing season.  It's time to dig out the ice fishing gear.

Pete, don't quit now, you're reaching the time of year when you can paddle downhill!

Yeah probably my last shot at small water in northern Idaho then I'll shift my attention to Roosevelt and Pend Oreille primarily.

What's the trout bite like right now on PO. Reel Mccoy and I had tentative plans to fish there on Tuesday.

Fair. Fish are still in the top 20' of the water column. Tues is the coldest day forecast with a high around 14 F so be careful out there. Apex and Rapalas are catching fish.

As I predicted, most lakes in Western Montana froze over this week.
