I’ve been working on getting a more flexible option for my  Gopro Hero Session. The pvc pipe fabrication I was using was ok but not flexible enough. I’ve seen some nice solutions on this site using Targus mono pods. They looked like a good concept. So I used that idea but chose a cheaper source. The local thrift store at the end of my street. So I kept checking their store till I found a cheap tripod on one of their sale days. It was $3 for a full size tripod. They get them in fairly often and most of the time they are in good shape but often have some kind of disfunction with the mounting part of the tripod. All I needed were a good set of legs. ;-). After taking it apart I had 3 mono pods to use. Add a couple of Scotty parts, a dollar store pool noodle and I was there. It is highly adjustable and extends from 2ft to 41/2 ft. I’m working on mounting a high capacity battery on the bottom end of the leg so I don’t have to worry about the battery running low. It will not be waterproof but i will only use that option when there is no rain in the forecast, and as I have Sidekicks set up on my kayak I’m hoping a turtle is a low % possibility.

OK, I'm impressed.  Looks like a pretty functional inexpensive system.  My goal over the winter is to use the 2 gopro's in my bag to set up a system I hope won't guarantee I'm short on fish in the coming year.  Much appreciated.

Thanks Trident. With the camera tripod purchase from the thrift store one could make three of these, port, starboard and bow. The one mounted by the seat could be easily switched to the other side. I have Gear Heads on Gear Tracks each side of the back of my seat. I have stops each end of the tracks so the Gear Heads cant come off and have the Head with the camera pole lightly tightened so it can be swiveled fore and aft as needed. It is easy to move from port to starboard if need be.

Thanks for the ideas, we swung into a GoodWill to load up for a White Elephant party and one of the employees walked out with these two identical ones in hand.  The have bolts at the top and nice locks on the legs and look new.  They never got to the shelf.  For $6, I can have 6 poles, two with very usable pivoting gear heads and four that can have fixed mounts...

Re this project. This youtube shows the method I utilized except I used thrift shop tripods instead of the targus monopod. And I made an aluminum angle bracket and standard gopro mounts.

Smart! The telescoping tripod legs are a great idea! I'm happy with the RAM rig I use for over the shoulder, but brainstorming another boom for the bow. Currently using an old net handle that works great, but having the ability to collapse it would be fantastic! Thanks!
