I have a Trident 11, it's brand new, and I like it.

I have a Lowrance HOOK-4 that's been used once - by me - and I like it.

They don't go together very good if you plan a thru-hull mount because the Trident's hull ISN'T FLAT!  It's a shallow "V".

Has anyone used a thru-hull mount on an OK Trident?  Do you shape the foam puck to fit the contour of the hull?  And does that affect the sonar performance?

Does anyone want to trade a Humminbird for a HOOK-4?  Dammit.

I fish from a OK trident 11 and have had several Lowrance FFs that i mount the same way, through-the-hull so the transducer sits on the flatter area just under the mod pod. Seven years ago i cut a a puck out of waterproof marine foam and sealed its edges well with marine goop. That puck is still working as expected. From there I use duct puddy to form a dense seal around the entire transducer, yet its still easily removable. I cant say this is the most ideal method to maximize the effectiveness of the transducer, but it has worked well enough for so long that i havnt changed my ways. What dont you like about the Hook 4? Lol, hope you two learn to get along.

like mursestrong say. the puck should be shaped to fit the hull and seal it real liberally with marine goop inside i would bevel the inside so the transducer will stay snug in it.  u only need a liitle water to shoot thru the hull.  ur puck does have hole all the way thru right? and not hollowed out with a bottom of foam? duct seal can help hold transducer in place too. i gooped in a velcro strap in my puck to do that. all is working fine for me after 4 years.

Thank you!  Hard to tell for certain, but it almost looks like your hull is more flat than mine in that spot, but it could just be my aggravation at not looking more closely until after I'd cut the foam.

Me and Lowrance get along great.  Lowrance and Ocean Kayak are fussing with each other.

Thanks.  Shaping the puck is what I thought I should have done - right after I'd finished cutting a puck.  I had it in a water bath in my Tarpon - nice flat bottom in those - and didn't think twice before cutting a new one.  Doh!  When I saw the V-hull, I had a "How's this ever gonna work?" moment.

I didn't attach Velcro to hold the transducer in place in the Tarpon.  Never thought of it.  Thank you for that tip, too!

I appreciate hearing that it will work when and if I ever finish installing it.

It took me two tries to get it to seal on mine. I ended up using copious amounts of sealant the second time and weighing it down with a brick for a day while it cured. One of mine seems to read a little bit "to the right" if you know what I mean so be careful getting it centered.

I assumed you used the transducer pockets, so damn!  If I'd known you did a thru-hull mount, I would have talked to you about it and maybe saved some foam...

Thank you.  Good head's up.

This reminds me of a really cool glue i found out about last year at the sportsmans show. It's  called "The Last Glue." Heat & water resistent, the glue immediately sets & ONLY once pressed as an anaerobic adhesive between two surfaces. I use this for things that i need to eliminate "set-time," & you can always add an additional adhesive like Marine Goop to the edges once the puck is set in place. I didnt use it for this purpose but it can help  prevent the slippery set time. You will have to hit it dead on the first press. Hope this helps. And yes your puck should be cut all the way through as dampainter mentioned.

The Humminbirds fit the scupper hold but not the Garmin transducer so I had to use the foam.

Thinking about the angles involved and how to maintain an even pressure while the Goop sets up, I was considering heat-welding the foam in place and Goop sealing the edges, although I hate to think about getting it off again if I need to replace the puck.

I wonder if "The Last Glue" can stick to HDPE.  Then again, it wouldn't have to hold forever, just until the Goop sets up.

Thank you.
