So after 3 seasons of fishing blind (I was really holding on to the minimalist mindset), I finally ordered a fish finder/gps. I got the lowrance hook-4. My question is, do I need to go buy the nautic insight map or does it have decent maps already loaded on it?

On a side note, thanks again to akrider for building/donating the sweet battery box that I won at last years WG halibut derby. Got it all hooked up yesterday and I can't imagine not having one.
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I get to kill something.

Not familiar with the Hook-4 but I have a AKRider battery box and it is a sweet setup.

I believe the BaseMap is what came with the unit.

I bought an Elite 4 that came with the Navionics+ maps that you can see here: https://webapp.navionics.com/#boating.  The Navionics maps are better - and a lot more costly -  but that web page will let you compare what you see on the Hook-4 with what you can see on the WWW page and decide if you need to upgrade.

The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

My came with the insight pro it had a sticker on the bottom right. I am thinking if yours did not have it then you don't got it.
