Here's a pretty good deal on the 8" food saver type bags. No experience with this particular brand, but I always double or triple seal things on both ends so it should be okay.

Its always a compromise somewhere for budget, at least for most of us. Personally, if i had compromised & spent an extra 6 Benjamins on a Chamber Vacuum Sealer id compromise with the bags. I unfortunately havnt & own thenewest Foodsaver so i do notice a huge difference with cheaper quality bags, especially in delicate fish like Steelhead & Halibut.

Unfortunately I haven't had the luck with either halibut or steelhead this last year, I would definitely agree the food saver bags are better quality. Though since I've been using the sous vide often it can get expensive really quickly when sealing a lot of food, I'm not so concerned with longevity in this case.

Hope this doesn't violate any rules, I'm sure more companies will be coming out with these.

I saw those and they look pretty cool for smaller cuts. I like to do ribs and roasts in the sous vide and they would be too big for those bags. Great concept though. I do reuse some of the food saver bags if they didn't have raw meat in them.

Hey listen... I used to buy those very same foodsaver and knockoff rolls on Amazon, and I think I got what I paid for; leaky bags and frostburnt food!  If you want really good bags, and rolls cheap- Cheaper And better than Food Saver Bags, I found a place... Check out the Ultra

http://shop.vacuumsealersunlimited.com/Bags-Rolls-Canisters-for-FoodSaver-Weston-VacMaster_c231.htm

Check out the ULTRA bags and rolls. These are actually the Vacmaster brand, and are the same premium ones you would pay a premium for at places like Cabelas. Even if you add in shipping, they are a better deal.

Lisa Billota is the owner of the place. She is active in and part of the BBQ competition circles in the central California area, and is a judge, and site sponsor of several smoking meat forums. Great reputation for service and price etc. and gives discount codes every month as she does return customers. This has been my experience. In fact I just placed an order for a new sealer machine- (Vacmaster PRO 380). The price was better than anywhere else I could find and shipped for free.

I'm still working on trying to get her to sponsor our site and/or some HOW fundraiser tourneys- ORC, AOTD, etc.... Please let her know you heard this from here.

I'm wanting to buy some 4mil 8x12" commercial vacuum bags for my sealer - Looks like the smallest qty they sell in that size is 1000 bags.  Does anyone want to split a case of 1000 ?

You should call or email Lisa. I don't know for sure, but I'll be willing to bet she would cut you a deal on a smaller amount that you needed.

Thanks, I did email her.
1000 is a lot of bags - I guess I need to catch more fish!

Agreed! I think we would all like to catch more fish. But at that rate- .06477 cents per bag- how can you go wrong? I would be vac sealing everything in my kitchen, and probably even my socks!
