So like most of you guys I've had my eyes glued to Magic seaweed the last few weeks looking for a wind and swell opening at cape Kiwanda, I saw Thursday had 3-4 foot surf and <10 mph wind from 6-9am so I decided to go for it. Launch was fairly difficult but I got out with no issues just had to pedal and paddle my ass off because there were some large outside breaks to avoid. Once I got out I dropped my gear out I had a Lingcod on in about 15 seconds! I continued to fish for 2 hours until wind started picking up. I left with 2 Lingcod 4 Black rockfish, I released one small Canary.

On the way back I had a very bad wipeout... all my gear was tethered. But it was a good show for all the surfers to witness my yard sale. I surfed my whole life and Scuba dove out of submarines so it was all good laughs for me.

Awesome, way to make the most of a weather window.  Did you finish rigging your new kayak.

Right on, way to get it done!  I noticed that small swell yesterday morning when I was driving to work in Waldport.  Good to hear someone was able to take quick advantage of it.  Also good to hear you didn't lose any gear on the yard sale!

Were you fishing with bait or jigs? Looks like you've got a mooching rig on your rod in the photo.

It was a mooching rig, but I was using squid not herring. Yes Kayak is rigged, almost lost my Lowrance HDS, 1'' RAM balls dont like wipeouts...

Nice report (and fish)!  I'm glad someone got to take advantage of the conditions!
