Hello again everyone,

After a long off season its that time of year to get back out on the water! Me and a buddy will be going out to Neah Bay on Sunday 4/16/17 to get some lings and bass on opening day(weather permitting). We will be launching around 8am at snow creek. Would love to have some fellow fish heads out there to join us!

Tight lines everyone!

Would love to make it out but that's the weekend our kids are moving away from Freeattle so I'm bound to home.  I'm guessing you've fished it before.  I'm assuming you'll fish off Seal/Sail rock.  Would really appreciate reading an update.  After looking at the regs, I would have no confidence I understand what is allowed or not. You mentioned that is the opening of the/a season.  I thought the area was open within 120 feet and am wondering about an opening?

"Fishing for BOTTOMFISH prohibited in waters deeper than 120 feet as defined by the coordinates listed below shown by the
dashed red line. Exception: retention of LINGCOD and PACIFIC COD allowed on days when HALIBUT is open."

2017 Juan de Fuca Strait & Puget Sound Recreational Halibut  2017 Ocean Halibut
Fishery Quotas

HALIBUT SEASONS

Puget Sound Region (Marine Areas 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10): Open Thursday May 4, Saturday May 6 and Thursday May 11 depending on available quota.  If there is sufficient quota remaining, the following dates will be considered for re-opening; Sunday, May 21 and/or Thursday, May 25 and Thursday June 1 and/or Sunday June 4.
In all marine areas open to halibut fishing, there is a one-fish daily catch limit and no minimum size restriction. Anglers must record their catch on a WDFW catch record card.
Marine Areas 5 and 6: It is permissible for halibut anglers to retain lingcod and Pacific cod caught while fishing for halibut in waters deeper than 120 feet on days that halibut fishing is open.

It's the ling opener. The area is open for rockfish/greenling/cabbies year round. Black and blue rockfish only. 6 fish limit on RF, two lings with a 22" minimum, but the minimum size may be going away this year. One cabezon, 18" minimum.

Yes, Thanks for explaining what I meant by "opener" Henney. Lingcod will be opening in this area on Sunday the 16th, and should be a blast. I fish this area 20-30 times a year as I'm only a 30 minute drive away, and know a few honey holes close to the resort. Seal and sail rock can be productive, but I tend to not fish there as just about everyone and their brothers fish there so the lings get picked through very quick. There's a nice underwater reef nearby though that produces nice lings and bass all year long. I will post pictures/ go pro footage after the trip, and an open invite is still available for anyone wishing to join.

Oh man, I would love to join you...but that's Easter Sunday and we have family coming over...all kitchen passes are cancelled that day!
Love to go another time though. Thanks for putting the offer out, that's very cool.

We did make it out, but never did get the lines wet. The wind was 25mph+ and blowing way to hard to fish. I am going out in the in the morning though, and it is suppose to be nice so hopefully we get on some fish! I'll post an update in the afternoon
