For several years I had my locking Scotty mount on a removable mount I made out of HDPE that fit on my gear track.

It was OK, and many a salmon was hooked on this thing.  However, the rod was either sticking straight out to the side perpendicular to the yak, which caused the tip to bend back behind me, or it was pointing too far forward (IMHO).  That is because the Scotty bases adjust in 30 degree increments. It is hard to tell how the angle isn't optimal in this picture, but it was the only one I could find of the mount on my kayak.  8)

Anyways,  I drew up a new one in Sketchup with a 15 degree arc on each end (where the bolts mount it to the track) thinking that I could then get any angle my heart desired.

Thinking I was the smartest mother f***** on the block - if not the world -  I immediately milled one out of 1/8 inch aluminum plate I had laying around using the CNC router I built.  BEAUTIFUL!

I went down to the local big box store and picked up some stainless 1/4-20 bolts and nuts to mount the scotty base to it. I also picked up the brass toilet bolts(for the t-slot) and pressed the nuts into the 3D printed Knurled knobs. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:177400

Being so very proud of myself I texted a picture to a few people on the forum here, and described my genius to them.  When I went to mount it to the yak, I realized I may have overestimated my genius.  The bolt heads holding the Scotty mount to the aluminum plate needed to be countersunk or they prevented the plate from pivoting.  Duh! Stupid...stupid...stupid... :BangHead:

So, back to the drawing board and to the HDPE cutting board.  I re-cut one out of HDPE with counter sunk holes for stainless machine screws.  Back to genius status! ;D

I bought some 1/4 inch aluminum plate to make a few more if I like this one.
