I'm heading to Westport for the weekend. It looks like there is a small chance I could get out for an hour or two at first light Saturday morning. I'd love to drag my kayak along incase conditions are friendly, but I have a charter boat booked for Sunday and am a little nervous leaving my kayak and all my gear in the truck while I'm out Sunday.

Would you feel safe leaving your kayak in the bed of your truck, with a heavy cable run trough the mirage drive hole at Westport? Are there a lot of tweekers around Westport? The water conditions don't look all that great for Saturday, maybe I should just fish from the jetty and leave the toys at home(?)

There are tweekers  everywhere now days. Sad but it seems to be true.

If you are going to be putting in at Half Moon Bay--- your vehicle will be less secure there due to a lack of foot traffic than it would be parking on Westhaven Drive (the main drag by the docks and charter offices) Sunday during your charter trip. That is a chance we all take when we park in an area that is somewhat remote.
This weekend Westport will have a lot of people, especially with the nice weather forecast. That can be good and bad. Just play it smart. Don't leave valuables in your car. Same as parking any place else. A cable through your scupper holes or drive well will help deter thieves. Covering anything you don't want stolen inside the car may help also. Try to not look inviting to a thief and you should be okay. But there is always the possibility of getting ripped off. No matter where you are.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Thanks. I'll make sure to give the forecasts another good look before heading to the coast tomorrow. It looks like it'll be a little rough out there later in the day and I'd be fighting the current all morning <shrug />

If I bring the kayak I'll just do what I can to secure it and see what happens. I wonder if my insurance would cover a theft from my vehicle, ha I guess I'd rather not have to find out.
