Update- My daughter and I will be scouting out steelhead in the Pateros area, tomorrow. ;D

On the downside, we'll be in the Seattle area the weekend of Nov. 15.  :(

10/26 Pateros Report-

Got on the water late, around 2:30. Talked to a few people that said they saw fish caught in the morning, but we saw nothing in the 2 hours we were out there. :'(

The current depends upon the power generation schedule. Supposed to be a fair amount of current during the week, but I never get to play hookie and go over there, so I don't know. The weekends have always had minimal current. In general, most of the current is during work hours, during the workweek. Winds are usually very light during the winter months, too.

Doesn't the bite pick up with the current?  Or is it the other way around?

The only time I've noticed much of a current over there was when I launched at the public launch near the dam.  They had opened the spillway and you could see the water running out of the shallows.  Never had any problem with the current, and I've fished there many times during the week.  Having said that, there is a current, but I would peg it at less than 1kt.  Never anything that would cause you problems fishing or paddling. I'm sure it varies some, depending on where you are on the lake.

The wind can be a problem over there, and can really blow a hole in your fishing plans.

Good luck,

I've heard that it makes a difference for walleyes- apparently they head for eddies and slack areas when there's a current. I haven't seen much current on the weekends I've fished, but found lots of trout.

Winds can be a problem in the spring and summer, but starting this time of the year,  it's less of a problem. We tend to get big inversions in the winter and the atmosphere "decouples", as the weather folks say.
