Good Day All,

My first post on this board so here goes. Please excuse in advance my mis-spellings and general poor typing. My only excuse is that there is a variable discontinuity between my brain and fingers at times that lead to the problem, then my eyes see what I think I wrote and there you have it. ;)

I am departing my home in Lottsburg Virginia (mouth of the Potomac River) as Dads Delivery Service. I am gifting my oldest grand daughter a 100 year old bed to sleep on and in order for her to get it I have to deliver it to her in New Mexico. This gives me an excuse to see her and my son and her mom. Then its off to deliver a bed I pick up there to "moms" son in/at Edwards AFB. Then its off to Seattle via the coastal highway to deliver more furnature and to visit youngest grand dauthter, my daughter and her husband.

I am bringing cold weather fishing gear but not my kayak. I have hopes of catching a salmon or two for the Christmas table and am seeking some local knowledge as to where to rent a fishing kayak, then where to go fishing and hopefully a local person to go with me as I do not like to venture into unfamiliar waters alone.

Thanks in advance! :)

Val

Welcome VFA,

Unfortunately December is a tough time for salmon.  The fall spawn is mostly over and the weather is cold and unpredictable.  Perhaps you can get you into a local steelhead or late running chum salmon in the rivers.  You might have a shot at a blackmouth (immature chinook salmon) if you get a good window of weather.

Try either either Seattle Raft and Kayak (http://www.seattleraftandkayak.com/) or NorthWest Outdoor Center (http://www.nwoc.com) for local renters.  I'm not sure what their fleets look like during winter.  Or ... if the timing is right, I may be able to take you somewhere.  Not sure if this second option will work out as I am way overloaded these days running up to the holidays.  But there's always hope that I can steal a few hours away to fish.

Good luck!

I've got my dry suit, pfd, vhf and warm cloths in the van. Have reached Knoxville on the Dads Delivery Service trip. Anticipating Seattle on the 22nd. Beginning to look like a visit to the fish monger is in order. :(
