Prepping a brand new reel for saltwater use?

So historically I have bought a reel, spooled it up and used it brand new out of the box without messing with it otherwise.  I just spooled up a brand new reel and was wondering if there are some things I could be doing internally and out to prep it for the abuse of saltwater fishing?

I got all the grease/lube/corrosion-x ready to go, just not sure where they need to be applied, how much, etc.  Searches only seem to bring up general cleaning/maintenance tips but I'm wondering more specifically on if there is a way to grease it up in a way that will make it last longer between services in the salt environment. 

what kind of reel?  Conventional, spinning??

To answer your question, yes, there are probably a few areas that you could lube and protect compared to the factory assembly out of the box.  Some manufacturers are better than others when it comes to OEM protection.  Reliable performance will be ensured if you rinse with fresh water after each use and then do a complete service each year on your reels. 

Probably would have been good to provide that info!  Reel is a conventional - Abu Garcia Revo Toro T2 S61.             

Got the rinse and once-a-year maintenance down but I'm finding some reels to break down and require service quicker than others within that timeframe such as my okuma induron...
