Heres my report from sunday. This is a jetboat report because it was easier to store a jetboat at the bend ODOT yard than a kayak, go figure. Because of the lack of ways to cook fish while working and staying in bend for 2 weeks this was a catch and release trip.Well I left The Dalles at 3am on sunday.on the water a little after 6. Ran out to 90ft and started trolling to deeper water trolling a Brad's killer fish with zero luck for a hr. Dropped a herring brined in natural fire brine and sea salt with a Rhys Davis bait head behind a large Shasta tackle sling blade down on the Downrigger and immediately got stripped. Got it rigged up and back down and after about 10 min got hammered again but it this time it stuck and I landed a 15" laker. Over the next several hours I hooked and landed 6 and lost many more. Most were trolling but got a few jigging white tubes tipped with gulp 3" minnows. Largest was 26" no record bilut my personal best.Watching these fish rocket out of 100+fow and hammer my herring or jig on the humminbird is a cool sight in itself. How curious these fish are to follow the DR ball for a hundred yards before going back to the depths is simply amazing to me. Watching it all on the screen. I know this isn't a kayak report but these fish are easily had by kayak. The fish are still scattered and have not started to stage for spawning yet but will be by the end of Sept and into oct. They are hungry and no other boats. Get out there. Btw they do taste great.
