East wind I can fish all day long. I have done best with walleye on the evening trolls, right as the sun goes down during the golden hour.

West wind, I start the day early and get off the water early. Sometimes long before noon. From my experience a west wind above 10 MPH that is funneled up the gorge can produce enough chop to get me off the water.

This wknd I am more concerned about flow. That area just below John Day Dam, around Rufus, can really rip. On Friday if the flow is too high, I might bump down river.

Thank you for all the great advice on monitoring conditions.   I have already been putting it to use.

A couple of us got out on the Columbia on Thursday morning.  Low wind in the morning.  Rained off and on.  Flow was below 200k.  Walleye bite was off and fishing was tough.  Partner landed a walleye and a bass.  I landed a bass.  Trollers in boats were having similar luck to ours.

It will be a week and a half before I go walleye fishing again.   Hoping for better weather, decent flows and tight lines.
