Somewhere in MA13 6/1

Jigging somewhere few kayaks venture. Kudos again to the Gig Harbor Fly Shop for taking care of me while my drive is under warranty for the fifth time in a year now. Broken idler cable and more sheared off sprocket teeth, might have to buy a new kayak in September just to stay under warrenty. Kept track of my mileage via tracks from the last time it came back from warrenty, ~57 miles in two and a half weeks. Don't think I'll post again until the MA11 opener on July 1st.

Fish hard.

Beautiful fish, man!

This is one of the first posts I read after I found this site. I've read a few more since then and have come to the conclusion that you are a truly hardcore fisherman. Seriously, it sounds like you're pushing that drive beyond what any normal human could.

Anyway - once I get familiar with my yak and equipment (and in a little better physical shape), I'd love go fishing with you sometime.

Sweet fish!  You either eat a lot of salmon...or have a walk-in freezer!
I'm going to give that Fox Island launch a try soon.  I'm pretty cautious with a new area, so I'll stick fairly close to shore at first and keep an eye on the tides.  Huge tide shifts lately.

I fillet, vacuum seal, and distribute it throughout the office and friends. Figure if I spread it across a bunch of people it likely won't go to waste. Heads are scanned for CWTs and those that are negative I save for some people that like making soup out of them. Collars and belly are for me cause they're tasty and I bake the backbones then scrape off the meat for salmon burgers (tip from a friend). Anything left is thrown back in the sound.

I really like the fact that you don't waste any of the fish you catch. Watched a YouTube video of a guy filleting fresh coho he caught from a boat and then just dumping everything else into the river. Seemed almost disrespectful to the fish, not to mention a huge waste of meat. Bet some lucky birds were thankful for it though.

Very nice pair,  workhard.  I've found my old books on area fishing.  I have Frank Haw's book,  and one by Doug Olander, "NW Coastal Fishing Guide".   Both authors locate fishing hotspots,  and I see that there are several fishable (by yak) spots still open.  If I can get the time,  I'll be in MA13  this week. 


I just gave NB another try.  I managed the surf,  and did pretty well with lings/rockfish/cabezon,  but no halibut.  I even spent some time practicing the brace/paddle surf technique.  It's not an easy maneuver,  but at least I have a fighting chance.
