Has anyone mounted an electric downrigger on their Hobie kayak? I have a new adventure island that I would like to add a downrigger. I am thinking about going the electric route. Mostly because I find it annoying needing to crank up the downrigger while peddling and reeling in a fish. And I already have 2 cannon mag 10 from my last boat.

It just so happens that I finished mounting one on a PA12 the other day. On a customer’s boat, not my own. The only downside is that there is now an extra 10-15 pounds on one side of the boat. I think the owner’s plan is to just put 10 lbs of weight on the other side to counter it. Turned out pretty well to my standards. I’d imagine you could achieve a similar outcome with Railblaza Aka Mount either mounted on the Aka or the crossbar.

When it gets snagged, how are you going to prevent the electric motor from pulling your boat under ? Asking for a friend.

More interested in how to flip it back over if you fall out (the PA) , not my cup of tea. I'd rather roll out with a jig and a dream, but this sport is something different to everyone.

For what it’s worth I deployed my Outback this weekend with one of the bigger (non-electric) Scotty’s that takes up 2’ per rotation. Made it pretty easy to take in the line quickly, including while playing a chinook.

Still a bulky and heavy shift up from the old trusty Laketroller. But workable with 1 hand max, and no added battery weight. But like WH said to each their own.
