Anyone else enjoy using a yak in the Yakima River Canyon?   My wife and I typically fish from the Umtanum area down to Roza or Big Pines.  We take a raft from time to time, but we really enjoy the yaks in that section, but don't see many others.  There are some nice sections where it's easier to use the mirage drive to get back up river to cover it again than it is to row a raft.

We typically only see drift boats or rafts, which is surprising as it's all class 1 water and the majority of the hazards are strainers and such close to shore.  I figured maybe out of this group there is someone else that enjoys that section of river?  We see a lot of yaks, mostly bass fishing, on the lower part of the river, but not up there.

I had been talking with some friends about drifting and camping it this summer, but we never got organized.   I was curious if you could do it with a mirage drive or if it would be too risky, so good to know that you can.   Mostly trout fishing in that stretch or is it warm water species?

It's mostly trout in that stretch, and some whitefish.  There are places where it's best to take the drive out, but in quite a few you can just make sure the fins are in the up position and be fine.
