Hello all,
I'm a new member from South Puget Sound. I have a couple of nice sea kayaks that my lady and I like to go and paddle around in on the Sound. Latey, I have been trying to get the hang of fishing from my little boat, but the cockpit is really tight and there's not a lot of deck space so I'm pretty limited in what I can carry and how I can fish. I was wondering if anyone had any advice of how to fish from a sea kayak.

Thanks

Check out any posts you can find from Yaktrap. He hasn't been active here for awhile, but he is the first one that comes to mind when talking sea kayak fishing. Also check out his videos on YouTube....Todd Switzer . His series ,Alaska Alone is some hard core camping, touring and fishing.

cheers and welcome to NWKA.  I sort of read your question as "I've got a Miata and am trying to figure out how to use it to take a bunch of construction supplies into the forest over a rough gravel road".   lol.

one possible answer being "probably better to use a pickup or small SUV."  ;D

Thanks for the advice folks, I'll check out those links. The sea kayaks belong to my wife's mother and father (they bought them from a paddle-sports store which was going out of business a handful of years ago and rarely use them) and we have them stored at the marina so using them whenever is really convenient. They are really nice boats, fast and sleek, but far from ideal for what i want to do which is paddle around and catch salmon. Buying a new kayak is not going to happen this year since they're really expensive and we just upgraded our bikes this spring instead. Additionally, going to any store to look at one or to demo one is not likely in the near future due to COVID.

Our resident OG (1970's)  kayak fisherman, kallitype, also could have some  advice. He's got a few posts here from his circumnavigation of Vancouver Island and pictures in his gallery ( I think still there) to prove it.

Also, check https://www.seattlesportsco.com/ they've got some deck bags designed for fishing from sea kayaks that might help with gear management
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.
