This is what I received from Tillamook today don't know when they will open up to the people that can actually social distance!

No user, included dory boat operators, can park on the beach. Only dory boat operators can park in the lot until further notice.

Thank you,
Rachel

If there is a valid public health reason behind this, I'm not seeing it.

It does pretty strongly smack of petty local tyrants flexing authority they shouldn't be trusted with (if they even have it) on behalf of the locals/commercials ahead of others.

Which is not to say all Dorymen are locals, or commercial. But zero kayakers are commercial fishermen and predominantly inlanders.

You were never allowed to park on the beach around Tillamook.  The State publishes an official map that shows where you can operate a motor vehicle on a beach, and as far as I can tell, none of those areas are designated as parking.

The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

This was voted in a couple weeks ago. There is places for us to park down there, but not very much! Fills up with surfers fast. Bring wheels and pull to the cape, or launch away from it if the surf is cooperating. It'll open back up to us soon.

Yeah, at this point I would not be shy about showing up before the surf crowd and parking on the street just south of the brewery and rolling down.  On a nice day, if the dorys are still required to park in the county lot, there will be little room for kayakers like it or not.  Hopefully they open up the beach ramp soon.

I would like to understand their logic.

Dory boats owners can park in the parking lot, but nobody else can?

It should either be closed to all, or opened to all.   :bs:

With that....I might reserve visiting the coast for a while, well after they go ahead and "allow" the valley folks to come over and help stimulate their economy.  I've been wanting to do more dispersed forest and desert camping anyways.  :bootyshake:

There is a Pacific City Dorymans Association. With funding supported by paid membership dues. I would think some of their program costs go into launch maintenance. I doubt that many, if any, kayakers pay in that pot of money. So to be fair, who should get priority? Money talks.

Yet we get a new Water Access Permit to pay for that is primarily aimed at kayakers and canoes and not boats.  I wonder if any of this money we will be paying will find it's way to any ocean/bay specific access for us kayakers?  Or will it just be used for the rivers and lakes?

BTW, there are a few kayakers on this site that pay into the Dory membership as well. I wonder how that works our for them?

I would be interested to hear from the kayakers here who financially support the Doryman's Association - how do you feel about this situation?

There has been some discussion amongst rec dory guys that the Assoc. may be looking out for the commercial (and perhaps guides) more so than the rest of the fleet.  However, i think it was fair to let the commercials fish during the closure to provide for themselves.

I did receive the code to the gate lock though for my membership.

The parking in the lot during weekdays in an effort to keep things more local is kind of stupid.  There are a lot of dory guys from the valley.

For now, I’ll continue street parking - Thursday anyone?

Onefish, why do you feel that it was fair to let the commercial folks fish during the closure for themselves, while basically requiring everyone else to risk shopping at a store to get their protein?  Unemployment is unemployment.  :-\

Even if curbside pickup was used, the transfer of Covid 19 still exists through the handling of the product from store to consumer.

On a side note, and sorry if this derails this topic. Closing fishing and hunting (ie..Washington) was also a weird response. Social isolation is at it's core when doing either activity.  Nature or suburbia, which one has a higher chance of spreading the virus?  :dontknow:

Insayn, I meant earn a living$ like the rest of the commercials in Oregon during this time.  They are all local, distanced themselves from what I saw and kept the food chain going.  There are probably less than 10 inspected commercial dorys in PC.  Those guys work their asses off.

We all got to fish, just not everywhere we wanted.  Things are opening up slowly and at the right time!

I am at PC now. Sort of an interesting !@&? Show. Everybody is parking above and walking down. If they are trying to regulate people by restricting the beach, it is not working. Just makes it harder to get the kayak down.

Even awhile, how is everyone doing?

Anyone going out of PC on Monday?
