Beginning July 20, 2020

Retention of China, copper, and quillback rockfish is prohibited when fishing from a boat.
The general marine fish bag limit will increase from 5 to 7 fish per angler per day

So if I’m jetty fishing I can keep China, copper, or quailback rockfish? Just not from my boat, so if I step out onto the jetty am I then legal to retain?

I find it funny that the season lists as ended for the species but they chose to include the the word “boat”

I'm assuming we (kayaks) fall into the same category as boats in this situation?

Mojo, You're fine off the jetty to keep one as part of your bag limit. They did something similar last year (or the year before?) and the intentionally included the word boat when it was asked about jetty fishing.

Called ODFW today. A kayak is considered a boat under these regs.

did you ask about hooking it from “boat” then landing it from shore? Hmm not that I really care, and btw... I have stepped of them kayak into the jetty rocks fir a little relief.

Why the hell would you bother with all that for a copper rockfish?  Just let it go and catch your 7 blacks.

I only asked the logical questions.

I much prefer China and Quillbacks to blacks. They aren't super common, but when you do come across them the taste is unbelievable! Coppers to me are about the same. Plus I've noticed blacks seem more prone to the worms. Granted it all has to do with water temperature, age and diet. And I know it seems that way only because 95% of the fish you come across are usually blacks. Either way I am happy with the increase. Faster I can get my freezer stocked the faster I can focus less on rockfish and more on Salmon/Halibut.

I wish we would have this conversation around Vancouver, BC ;D.
We are not allowed to keep any rockfish or lingcod for many years now. I catch them all the time though.
