My halibut FAIL

Shamefully, I hadn't serviced that reel yet this year. I like that "lockjaw gaff" a whole lot. I could manage that and a small buoy even with other gear.

I like that little gaff as well.  Never targeted Hali's on the kayak but my curiosity has been awakened! hahaha.  My friends power boat died a horrible death last year and I haven't been Halibut fishing since.  We always anchored and fished.  I guess you'd have to drift fish Hali's with the kayak as nobody in their right mind would anchor one.

After watching your video (That was certainly NOT a fail) and reading the comments.  I did a little digging today and the links/websites to these Gaffs all appear to be dead.  I did find this site and they are used for hunting Gators. http://www.huntfishsupply.com/Fishing/tabid/58/Default.aspx  Not exactly an inexpensive item.  Then again, 50 pounds of Halibut at the store is a whole lot more $$$...  No offense meant to any NWKA Sponsors on the posted link, I'm not aware of people hunting Gators from a kayak 

For us in Canada, that $199US turns into +/- $300 really quick.  OUCH!  Figure I'll see if any buddies want a "COVID project" hahaha
